DISTANT LAND MARLBOROUGH GEWURZTRAMINER 2011

SEASON
The Marlborough season started off well with early budburst and a long, clear, relatively frost free spring. Summer got off to a great start as well, with plentiful sunshine and a continued absence of frost, ensuring a good fruit set. The hot summer meant superb ripening for this low cropping variety.

VINEYARD
Select parcels of fruit were sourced from a single vineyard site in Renwick, Marlborough. The terroir in Marlborough is ideal for growing Gewürztraminer, the vineyard in the Omaka sub-region of Wairau playing an important part with its river silt soils allowing free-draining of water while layers of limestone ensure minerality.

WINEMAKING
The juice was fermented using a number of selected yeast strains and at a range of temperatures, to enable us to capture a spectrum of flavour and aroma profiles. The ferments were stopped to retain natural sweetness, and then matured on its yeast lees before blending the different tanks together to achieve a wine of balanced palette weight, character and interest.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES
Floral aromas of jasmine and rose petal lead to a palette of Turkish Delight and underlying citrus tones rounding off with a crisp marmalade finish.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS
Serve slightly chilled, citrus infused Salmon or any Thai style dish.
